Bangkok itself has no beaches, but there are several beach areas within easy travel of Bangkok either by taxi, bus or to several destinations by train. Although it is relatively cheap to fly to beaches and islands some people like to spend a few days (or longer) on a beach close to Bangkok so they just take a taxi from their Bangkok hotel and arrive directly at their beach resort
in some cases boat or ferry ride is required. Some of the best beaches near Bangkok which can be reached by road are Bang Saen (very quiet), Pattaya (very lively), Jomtien Beach (very busy but quieter than Pattaya), a beach resort area south of Pattaya. Onward to Rayong and boat to Koh Samet Island and coast or continue along the coast to Trat for a ferry to the coast of Koh Chang Island. You can also reach Koh Chang by air from Bangkok to Trat. Heading to the south west side of the bay are Cha Am, Hua Hin Hotels as well as nearby pranburi hotels and beaches, all also reachable by frequent train services other than by bus or taxi.
Beaches in Hua Hin
The beaches near Bangkok are popular as it is very cheap to get to the bus, taxi or to some of the beaches (eg Hua Hin) also by train. Hua Hin and Cha am, and now also Pranburi are very popular on weekends. The area offers not only beaches but national parks, tracks, temples, and lots of sightseeing, an elephant village, and more. Also if you depart from Bangkok late at night you can enjoy a great time at the beach if you are close to Bangkok. There are quiet beaches south of Hua Hin including beaches near Sam Roi Yot National Park and further south to Thailand’s Baan Krut and Bang Saphan.
